Narration 1: of Jabir (رضي الله عنه)
Sallām ibn Sulaym said: al-Hārith ibn Ghasīn narrated to us, from al-A’mash, from Abū Sufyān, from Jābir (raised to the Prophet (ﷺ)):
أصحابي كالنجوم، بأيهم اقتديتم اهتديتم
“My Companions are like stars; whichever of them you follow, you will be guided.” (Jāmi’ al-‘Ilm of Ibn Abdul-Barr pg. 309 and others)
Declared Fabricated by Al-Albānī in al-Da’īfah #58 saying:
“Sallām ibn Sulaym — also said to be [named] Ibn Sulaymān, and he is al-Tawīl [the Tall] — for there is consensus on his weakness; indeed, Ibn Khirāsh said: “A liar”. Ibn Hibbān said: “He related fabricated hadīths.”
And al-Hārith ibn Ghasīn is unknown, as Ibn Hazm said, and likewise Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr said.”
Sallām ibn Sulaym al-Tawīl
Al-Bukhārī said: “They [i.e. scholars of Hadīth] abandoned him.” Abū Zur’ah declared him to be weak. Al-Nasāʾī said: “Matrūk in hadīth.” Yahyā ibn Ma’īn said: “He is weak, his hadīth isn’t written down.” Ahmad said: “munkar in hadīth.” Al-Dāraqutnī included him in “the weak and abandoned (narrators).” (Jāmi Li-Kutub al-Du’afā #5085)
Narration 2: of Ibn ‘Abbās
Sulaymān ibn Abī Karīmah, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhāk, from Ibn ‘Abbās (raised to the Prophet (ﷺ)):
مهما أوتيتم من كتاب الله فالعمل به لا عذر لأحدكم في تركه، فإن لم يكن في كتاب الله فسنة مني ماضية، فإن لم يكن سنة مني ماضية فما قال أصحابي، إن أصحابي بمنزلة النجوم في السماء، فأيها أخذتم به اهتديتم، واختلاف أصحابي لكم رحمة
“Whatever you are given from the Book of Allāh, then acting upon it — none of you has any excuse to abandon it. If it is not in the Book of Allāh, then follow an established Sunnah from me. If there is no established Sunnah from me, then follow what my Companions said — for my Companions are like the stars in the sky; whichever of them you take hold of, you will be rightly guided — and the disagreement of my Companions is a mercy for you.” (al-Bayhaqī in al-Madkhal #152 and others)
Declared Fabricated by Al-Albānī in al-Da’īfah #59 saying:
“this is a very weak chain (daʿīf jiddan):
Sulaymān ibn Abī Karīmah — Ibn Abī Hātim said (2/1/138), from his father: “Weak in hadīth.”
Juwaybir — he is Ibn Sa’īd al-Azdī, abandoned (matrūk), as al-Dāraqutnī, al-Nasā’ī, and others said; Ibn al-Madīnī graded him extremely weak.
And al-Dahhāk is Ibn Muzāhim al-Hilālī, who never met Ibn ‘Abbās.”
Juwaybir ibn Sa’īd:
Ibn Hajr said in al-Taqrīb #1089: “(He is) very weak”. Ibn Ma’īn said: “He is nothing”. Al-Nasā’ī said: “Abandoned.” al-Dāraqutnī said: “Abandoned.” Ibn Junayd said: “Abandoned.” (Tārīkh al-Dūrī 2/89, Mīzān 1/427, al-Du’afā 147)

Narration 3: of ‘Umar (رضي الله عنه)
Nu’aym ibn Hammād, from ‘Abd al-Rahīm ibn Zayd al-‘Ammī, from his father, from Sa’īd ibn al-Musayyib, from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb (raised to the Prophet (ﷺ)):
سألت ربي فيما اختلف فيه أصحابي من بعدي، فأوحى الله إلي: يا محمد! إن أصحابك عندي بمنزلة النجوم في السماء، بعضها أضوأ من بعض، فمن أخذ بشيء مما هم عليه من اختلافهم فهو عندي على هدى
“I asked my Lord about what my Companions would disagree over after me, and Allāh revealed to me: ‘O Muhammad! Indeed your Companions are, in My sight, like the stars in the sky — some brighter than others. Whoever takes hold of anything of what they hold, in their disagreement, is, in My sight, upon guidance.‘” (Ibn Battah in al-Ibānah and others)
Declared Fabricated by Al-Albānī in al-Da’īfah #60 saying:
“This is a fabricated chain: Nu’aym ibn Hammād is weak — al-Hāfidh [Ibn Hajr] said: “He errs frequently.”
And ‘Abd al-Rahīm ibn Zayd al-‘Ammī is a liar.”
Nu’aym ibn Hammād ibn Mu’āwiyah ibn al-Hārith
In Tahrīr al-Taqrīb pg. 804 it’s mentioned, commenting on Ibn Hajr’s verdict regarding his status: “Rather: [he is] weak (da’īf); more than one of the imāms graded him weak. But some of them strengthened his standing and praised him well, on account of his support for the Sunnah, the intensity of his resolve in resisting its enemies, and his unyielding stance during the Trial (al-Mihnah) — to the point that he died imprisoned, his shackles [still] upon him. Al-Bukhārī related from him only paired with another [narrator].”
‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn Zayd al-‘Ammī
Ibn Hajr said: “Abd al-Rahmān is a liar.” (Talkhīs 6/3188)
Narration 4: of Ibn Umar
Abū Shihāb al-Hannāt, from Hamzah al-Jazarī, from Nāfi’, from Ibn ‘Umar (raised to the Prophet (ﷺ)):
إنما أصحابي مثل النجوم، فأيهم أخذتم بقوله اهتديتم
“My Companions are only like the stars — whichever of them you take hold of by his word, you will be rightly guided.” (al-Muntakhab #783 and others)
Declared Fabricated by Al-Albānī in al-Da’īfah #61 saying:
“Hamzah is Ibn Abī Hamzah — al-Dāraqutnī said: “Abandoned (matrūk).” Ibn ‘Adī said: “Most of his narrations are fabricated.” Ibn Hibbān said: “He relates fabrications uniquely from the trustworthy [narrators], as if he were deliberately fabricating them — it is not permissible to narrate from him.” Al-Dhahabī cited, in al-Mīzān, hadīths among his fabrications — this being one of them.”
Hamzah ibn Abī Hamzah al-Jazarī
Ibn Hajr said in al-Taqrīb: “Matrūk, attributed with fabrications.” (#1519) and in Talkhīs he said “Hamzah is very weak.” (6/3188)
Imām Ahmad said: matrūh al-hadīth (his hadīth is discarded – i.e. not considered for supporting evidence). Yahyā ibn Ma’īn said: “His hadīth is nothing.” And al-Bukhārī and Abū Hātim al-Rāzī said: “Munkar al-hadīth.”And al-Tirmidhī said: “Weak in hadīth.”And al-Nasā’ī and al-Dāraqutnī said: “Matrūk al-hadīth [abandoned in hadīth].” And Abū Ahmad ibn ‘Adī said: “He has some sound hadīths, but most of what he relates are objectionable and fabricated reports (manākīr mawdū’ah), and the affliction lies with him — not with those who narrate from him, nor with those he narrates from.” (Tahdhīb al-Kamāl 2/293)
Narration 5: of Nubayt ibn Sharīt
Abū Nu’aym al-Asbahānī said: Abū al-Hasan Ahmad ibn al-Qāsim ibn al-Rayyān al-Misrī, known as al-Lu’lu’ī, narrated to us, who said: Ahmad ibn Ishāq ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Nubayt ibn Sharīt, Abū Ja’far al-Ashja’ī, narrated to us, who said: my father Ishāq ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Nubayt narrated to me, who said: my father Ibrāhīm ibn Nubayt narrated to me, from his grandfather Nubayt ibn Sharīt (raised to the Prophet (ﷺ)) :
أهل بيتي كالنجوم، بأيهم اقتديتم اهتديتم
“The people of my household are like stars — whichever of them you follow, you will be guided.” (Nuskhah – copy of Ahmad ibn Nubayt)
Declared Fabricated by Al-Albānī in al-Da’īfah #62 saying:
“Al-Dhahabī said, of this copy: “It contains calamities! Ahmad ibn Ishāq may not be cited as evidence, for he is a liar.”
Al-Hāfidh [Ibn Hajr] endorsed this in al-Lisān.
I say: the one narrating from him, Ahmad ibn al-Qāsim al-Lu’lu’ī, is [also] weak.”
Narration 6: of Abū Hurayrah
Ja’far ibn ‘Abd al-Wāhid said: Wahb ibn Jarīr ibn Hāzim said to us, from his father, from al-A’mash, from Abū Sālih, from Abū Hurayrah (raised to the Prophet (ﷺ)):
مثل أصحابي مثل النجوم، من اقتدى بشيء منها اهتدى
“The likeness of my Companions is the likeness of the stars — whoever follows anything of them is rightly guided.” (al-Qudā’ī 2/109)
Declared Fabricated by Al-Albānī in al-Da’īfah #438 saying:
“One of the hadīth scholars wrote in the margin — I believe it to be Ibn al-Muhibb, or [perhaps] al-Dhahabī — “This hadīth is not sound.”
I say: meaning that it is fabricated, and its affliction is this Ja’far — al-Dāraqutnī said: “He fabricates hadīths.” Abū Zur’ah said: “He relates hadīths that have no basis.” Al-Dhahabī compiled hadīths he accused him of [fabricating], among them this one, and said: “It is among his calamities!”
