Weak hadīth: The scent of the child is from the scent of Paradise

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

“The scent of the child is from the scent of Paradise”

ريحُ الولد من ريحِ الجَنَّةِ

The main route is via Mindal b. ‘Alī who is weak but considered for corroboration:

He was declared weak by Ibn Hajr in al-Taqrīb and al-Bayhaqī in al-Shu’ab.

He was declared weak by Abū Zur’ah, al-Nasā’ī, al-Dāraqutnī [in another narration: “Matrūk”], Ibn Qāni’, Ahmad, Al-Bazzār, Tahāwī, Ibn Qattān, al-‘Irāqī, Ibn Hazm.

Ibn Sa’d said: “there is weakness in him.”

Yahyā ibn Ma’īn in a narration said regarding him and Habbān: “Their hadīth is nothing.” In another narration he said :”his hadīth is written down [i.e. for consideration].

Al-Bukhārī included him in al-Du’afā (the weak narrators). al-Bukhārī said: “Mindal is weak; I do not write down his hadīth.”

al-Jūzajānī said: “Wāhī al-hadīth.”

And al-Hākim Abū Ahmad said: “He is not strong in their view.”

And al-Sājī said: “He is not thiqah; he narrated objectionable reports [manākīr]. And Ibn al-Muthannā told me: ‘ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn Mahdī did not narrate from him.’”

And Ibn Hibbān said: “He was among those who raise mursal reports and give a connected chain to mawqūf reports from poor memorisation, so he deserved to be abandoned.”

Shaykh Muqbil said: “He has been spoken about and the apparent [view] is that his hadīth falls below hasan.”

There are also other routes from Ibn ‘Abbās which are very weak, thus not suitable for corroboration.

There is also a route from Āishah which is very weak, thus not suitable for corroboration.
